Our Mission Work

The First Presbyterian Church, Shenandoah’s Mission Committee is very active in the life of the church, local mission, and global outreach. We are a Matthew 25 church.

We participate in:

 

  1. Contributing to all four PCUSA Special Offerings
  2. Partner with the Shenandoah Community School Nurse for providing students with needed clothing and supplies
  3. Organize an annual Soup Cook-Off, partnering with Emmanuel Lutheran, Congregational Church, Community of Christ, St. John’s Episcopal Churches with all proceeds going to Heifer International
  4. Food Drive for the Shenandoah Community Food Pantry twice a year
  5. Participation in Star Spangled Shenandoah—Providing activities and prizes for
  6. Participation in Shenandoah’s 4th of July celebration
  7. Reverse Advent Calendar—benefitting Shenandoah Community Food Pantry
  8. Annual Christmas Adopt-a-Family—Advent Activity working with a Shenandoah group to provide Christmas gifts for children of families in need
  9. Room at the Table – providing a meal to members of the community the last Wednesday of each month and providing a speaker to share information on activities going on in the Shenandoah Community. We do this in partnership with Emmanuel Lutheran, Congregational Church, Community of Christ, and St. John’s Episcopal Church
  10. Support for Mission Co-Workers —Dan and Elizabeth Turk—in Medagascar, one of the poorest nations in the world where 13 million people suffer from malnutrition, only 46% of the people have access to clean drinking water, and 75% of the population lives in poverty
  11. Partner with Presbytery of Missouri River Valley in supporting Nicaraguan School Uniform Project with a special offering.
    Support the Hispanic Center in Shenandoah
  12. Provide Fans for families in need—distributed by the Shenandoah Community Food Pantry
  13. Food of the Month: encouraging congregation members to purchase a special food item each month for The Shenandoah Community Food Pantry clients
  14. Thanksgiving meal—partnering with Alan Armstrong and men from the Methodist Church to provide a full turkey dinner to the public on the evening before Thanksgiving
  15. Compassionate response: responding to the needs of those in our community with food and gas cards
  16. Monthly movie matinee
  17. and other items as able.
